A discussion of how
this century has gotten off to such a bad start.
In other words: A discussion of The Bush Administration

While the American public, media, and bloggers laugh at the GOP and their accounting issues with Sarah Palin's clothes, the GOP still in charge is busy looting our treasury for amounts that make Palin's wildest shopping sprees pale in comparison.
WASILLA, Alaska – Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin spent part of the weekend going through her clothing to determine what belongs to the Republican Party after it spent $150,000-plus on a wardrobe for the vice presidential nominee, according to Palin's father. ... Palin's father, Chuck Heath, said his daughter spent Saturday trying to figure out what belongs to the RNC.
"She was just frantically ... trying to sort stuff out," Heath said. "That's the problem, you know, the kids lose underwear, and everything has to be accounted for.
Seriously folks, it is always fun to spend time learning about Palin's wardrobe purchases, but I'd gladly let her keep all of the $150,000 clothes if it meant the media would start paying attention to the billions that the treasury department is handing out like candy.
And we don't even know who they are handing the money out to.
They won't tell us.
It could be to Cheney's favorite bunker builder as far as we know.
Nov. 10 (Bloomberg) -- The Federal Reserve is refusing to identify the recipients of almost $2 trillion of emergency loans from American taxpayers or the troubled assets the central bank is accepting as collateral.
Fed Chairman Ben S. Bernanke and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said in September they would comply with congressional demands for transparency in a $700 billion bailout of the banking system. Two months later, as the Fed lends far more than that in separate rescue programs that didn't require approval by Congress, Americans have no idea where their money is going or what securities the banks are pledging in return.
So is this how it goes?
College Roommate: Hey Hank! Old Bennie told me to give you a call, he told me to use the phrase 'the helicopter has landed'. I've got a little problem.
Henry Paulson: Well any old friend of Ben's is a friend of mine. What can I do you for?
College Roommate: Hank, I've got a bank see... well it is actually a construction firm, but last year we gave a secretary down the hall an advance on her salary, so like that is kind of like a bank right?
Henry Paulson: I think we certainly could find the form that would allow us to consider you a bank, trust me that won't be a problem.
College Roommate: Great Great. See uh, we've been building these houses in the middle of nowhere that no one wants, which was fine until earlier this year when suddenly "market forces" kind of demanded our business model make more sense.
Henry Paulson: Yes the market is a cruel mistress. Your business should not be held responsible for its capricious ways. How much you in for?
College Roommate: We've extended ourselves just a bit.
Henry Paulson: Oh don't worry, you shouldn't be embarrassed.
College Roommate: Yeah we need about 20 billion.
Henry Paulson: Not a problem! You got collateral?
College Roommate: You shitten me? I ain't got nothing! Bennie said you were cool.
Henry Paulson: No no - I was just kidding, I'm cool, I'm cool. If you've got some old fax machines sitting around in some closet somewhere that'll be good enough.
College Roommate: Okay, yeah I'm fine with that.
Henry Paulson: So will you be my friend in Facebook?
College Roommate: Not until I see the money.
Unfortunately I don't think the American tax payer will ever see the money.
This is a "team" blog. We are a bunch of
Americans, whose rising distress
in our leader's decisions brought us together to make this site.
As Bush said, he's a "uniter." Many of us have never even met.
That's the internet for you.
"To announce that there must be no criticism of the
president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is
not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the
American people."
- Teddy Roosevelt
"Government has a final responsibility for the well-being of
its citizenship. If private cooperative endeavor fails to provide work
for willing hands and relief for the unfortunate, those suffering
hardship from no fault of their own have a right to call upon the
Government for aid; and a government worthy of its name must make
fitting response."
- Franklin Delano Roosevelt
"I am not an advocate for frequent changes in laws and Constitutions, but laws must and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors."
- Thomas Jefferson
"The means of defense against foreign danger historically have become the instruments of tyranny at home."
"All men having power ought to be distrusted to a certain
degree."
- James Madison
"I believe in human dignity as the source of national purpose, in human liberty as the source of national action, in the human heart as the source of national compassion, and in the human mind as the source of our invention and our ideas. It is, I believe, the faith in our fellow citizens as individuals and as people that lies at the heart of the liberal faith. For liberalism is not so much a party creed or set of fixed platform promises as it is an attitude of mind and heart, a faith in man's ability through the experiences of his reason and judgment to increase for himself and his fellow men the amount of justice and freedom and brotherhood which all human life deserves." - John F. Kennedy
"Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. Among them are [a] few other Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or business man from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid."
- Dwight D. Eisenhower
